IBM 3900-DW1 and DW2Model Abstract 3900-DW1Model DW1 offers simplex 2-up 8.5 by 11 inch paper printing with throughput speeds up to 232 IPM. With the 458 IPM feature or the 150-229 Dual Simplex Speed Switch feature the throughput speeds are increased up to 354 IPM. The 3900-DW1 operates with the 3900-DW2 to produce the tandem print engine 3900 Advanced Function Wide Duplex Print System. The IBM 3900 Wide Duplex Printing System offers the customer an 18-inch paper path (with a 17-inch print width) with duplex capabilities. This gives the customer the opportunity to reduce overall printing time and usage charges by enabling the printing of 2-up, side-by-side 8.5 by 11 inch and ISO A4 pages. When printing in simplex mode, either or both printers may print independent data streams of simplex output at the simplex throughput speed for 1-up and 2-up formats. Model DW1 utilizes a multi-roll developer system that produces superior overall print quality. In addition, the IBM exclusive Print Quality Enhancement (PQE), another standard function, enables the smoothing of edges on diagonal lines, protects the fine details in the customer's applications (such as logo details, etc.), improves the fidelity of images (halftone gray scales), and allows for the adjustment of the boldness of text and darkness of images. Up to three Pre/post-processing Interfaces may be attached per engine. The 3900-DW1 does not have an AFCCU, but does have a Printer Utility Module (PUM) that includes a Mechanism Interface Card (MIC). The MIC communicates with the AFCCU and supports attachment of the pre/post processing interfaces. Model Abstract 3900-DW2Model DW2 offers simplex 2-up 8.5 by 11 inch paper printing with throughput speeds up to 232 IPM. With the 458 IPM feature or the 150-229 Dual Simplex Speed Switch feature the throughput speeds are increased up to 354 IPM. Up to three Pre/post-processing Interfaces may be attached per engine. Both print engines are controlled by one IBM Advanced Function Common Control Unit (AFCCU) attached to Model DW2. The AFCCU provides for operation of the print engines in either duplex or simplex mode. The AFCCU is based on IBM's recognized RISC technology. The standard configuration, includes 64MB memory, a touch screen control panel/monitor, and the option of ESCON*, System/370* Parallel Channel, Token-ring (TCP/IP), or Ethernet** (TCP/IP) attachments. Performance enhancements such as the Advanced Function Image and Graphics (AFIG) feature are integral to the AFCCU design. |
