IBM 3900-001 and 3900-OW1AbstractThe IBM 3900 family of Advanced Function Printers offers a broad range of highly reliable, continuous-form simplex and duplex page printing solutions at throughput speeds ranging from 91 to 708 impressions per minute, very high print quality, and a rich assortment of performance and productivity enhancement features and functions. The 3900 models offer simplex and duplex printing with paper widths up to 18 inches. The IBM 3900-001 and "base" IBM 3900-0W1 offer high-speed simplex production printing at throughput speeds up to 354 impressions per minute (IPM) with a 16-inch and 18-inch paper path, respectively. By ordering the 3900-0W1 with feature code 4290 (plant) or 4291 (field MES), the throughput speed is increased up to 310 IPM in 1-up format or 480 IPM in 2-up 8.5 x 11-inch side-by-side format. The IBM 3900-0W3 offers an 18-inch paper path with simplex printing at 232 IPM, and is upgradable to the faster IBM 3900-0W1. The IBM 3900 Advanced Function Duplex Printing System is comprised of the 3900-D01 and 3900-D02 and produces duplex output at throughput speeds of up to 300 IPM. The 3900 Duplex System can also be operated in dual simplex mode with the models D01 and D02 each printing up to 150 IPM simplex output (229 IPM with features #4241 and #4242 installed). Models D01 and D02 support paper-path widths up to 16 inches. The IBM 3900 Advanced Function Wide Duplex Printing System is comprised of the 3900-DW1 and 3900-DW2 and produces duplex output at throughput speeds of up to 708 IPM when printing 2-up 8.5 x 11-inches side-by-side impressions with the optional high-speed duplex features. The 3900 Wide Duplex System can also be operated in dual simplex mode with the models DW1 and DW2 each printing up to 354 IPM simplex output with either the optional 150-229 Dual Simplex Mode features or the high-speed duplex features installed. Models DW1 and DW2 support paper-path widths up to 18 inches. The addition of InfoPrint 4000 - 464/600 High Resolution Duplex Models DR1 and DR2 offers high-quality, on-demand duplex printing at a high resolution of 600 dots per inch (DPI). The DR1 and DR2 work in tandem to produce duplex output at 300 IPM in 1-up letter format and up to 464 IPM in 2-up 8.5 x 11-inch side-by-side format. Model Abstract 3900-001The Model 001 is a high-speed, continuous-form page printer that operates at speeds up to 229 impressions-per-minute (IPM) for 8.5" x 11" paper or 235 IPM for ISO A4 paper. It has a 16-inch paper path with a 15-inch print width. This Advanced Function Printer with Enhanced Print Quality includes a new developer system, which improves overall print quality. In addition, the Pennant*-exclusive Print Quality Enhancement (PQE), another standard function, enables the smoothing of edges on diagonal lines, protects the fine details in customer applications (logo details, etc.), improves the fidelity of images (halftone gray scales), and allows for the adjustment of the boldness of text and darkness of images. Other standard features include the Advanced Function Image and Graphics (AFIG) feature, Increased Memory Performance, fuser preheat platen, 4MB of memory, and the enhanced operator alert facility. The 3900-001 is supported by IBM's AFP* software. It prints in simplex mode and accepts a rich assortment of chargeable features including pre- and post-processing interfaces. Model Abstract 3900-0W1The IBM 3900-0W1 offers an 18-inch paper path with a 17-inch print width offering customers the opportunity to reduce overall printing time and usage charges by enabling the printing of 2-up side-by-side 8.5 inch by 11-inch and ISO A4 pages. The base model IBM 3900-0W1 prints 229 8.5 x 11-inch (235 ISO A4) impressions-per-minute (IPM) (8.5-inch print direction) or 354 IPM when printing 2-up side-by-side 8.5" x 11" pages (332 ISO A4). Adding special feature 4290 (plant) or 4291 (field MES) enables throughput speeds up to 310 8.5 x 11-inch IPM (318 ISO A4) when printing in the 8.5-inch print direction, or 480 IPM when printing 2-up 8.5 x 11-inch side-by-side pages (451 ISO A4). Up to three pre/post-processing interfaces may be attached to the IBM 3900-0W1 enabling a wide choice of pre- and post-processing devices. Managing the printer function is IBM's state of the art Advanced Function Common Control Unit (AFCCU). The AFCCU is based on IBM's recognized RISC technology and in the standard configuration, includes 32MB memory, a touchscreen control panel/monitor, and the option of Token-Ring (TCP/IP), Ethernet (TCP/IP), ESCON*, or System/370* Parallel Channel attachment. Performance enhancements such as the Advanced Function Image and Graphics (AFIG) feature are integral to the AFCCU design. Consequently, the AFCCU provides levels of performance meeting or exceeding those provided on other 3900s with the Decompression Performance Enhancement (DPE) and the Increased Memory Performance features. Additionally, the AFCCU extends the scaling performance enhancement for compressed image to all scaling factors, enabling the printing of scaled compressed images at significantly higher levels of performance. |
